Who are Y. and V.?

Let’s just say we’ve been friends for almost as long as Jungkook has been alive. Our moms could have been friends, or maybe we’re old enough to be Jungkook’s mom. Either way, we’re not telling. 

We’re daughters of immigrant parents who dreamed of creating a better life for us, but we didn’t want to become doctors, lawyers, or engineers. We wanted to be true to ourselves, do what we love, and be happy, even if it turned out to be harder than we expected.

Adulting was bringing us down with office politics, the mental load of balancing careers, kids, laundry, trying to figure out what we wanted to be when we grow up. We found ourselves needing an escape. During the pandemic, we found comfort in the melodies and lyrics of K-pop, with boys who can dance in slippers, wear smokey eye makeup, and have a wardrobe we’d love access to, even if we’re not sure we can pull off their skinny jeans.

We found our happy place in friendship, in our love of Kpop culture, and in creating Bangtan Bums as a way of bringing more cheeky fun into our lives.

We know life is tough, but it’s also short. Loving yourself and living your truth can be hard, but expressing who you are should feel easy, like throwing on your favorite t-shirt. We’re inspired by those who are bulletproof to self-doubt, who follow their hearts and live their dreams. There will always be bummer moments, but we can choose to laugh more, love more, and spread kindness. This is the Bangtan Bums life.
